Kesha Lagniappe
This performance uses the idea of the laundromat to illustrate the much larger and harmful issue with capitalism and gentrification. The interactive concept was thought of after Lagniappe experienced their own neighborhood in Little Rock being gentrified. Gentrification begins by stripping the local community of resources -in particular, the laundromat. With the closure of the local laundromat, local residents are forced to either move to a different neighborhood, move into a more expensive rental unit with washer and dryer, or -as Lagniappe does- wash their clothes by hand.
