Sara Lynne Lindsay

In this performance, a billowing white dress is carried down 14th Street. The dress holds the name of victims who died of the Spanish Flu in Manhattan in 1918, written in invisible wax. Leaves from the nearby trees and bushes are collected along the path. When the dress is spread out on the sidewalk, the gathered foliage is rubbed onto the dress, leaving their green pigment on the dress and exposing the names of those who died in the previous epidemic. The dust from their streets, becoming dirt, becoming leaves, will remember them.
