Evan Dawson

In this performative installation, the artist ties nitrile gloves into a seemingly endless garland. Collected over the course of 5 years while Dawson was employed as an art handler, these gloves have possibly touched over a billion dollars worth of art. The disposable gloves are brought into a unifying presence in the form of a street stall. In light of the surge of PPE use during the pandemic, the material inherently centers various economic conversations regarding worker alienation, mass inequality, and the emergence of the “essential worker” -who is at the same time a hero while not given the dignity of a living wage.
